EROS AND PSYCHE SYNOPSIS:
Psyche is a mortal princess that was highly praised in her community for being extremely beautiful. men from everywhere would seek her out to admire her beauty, which made Aphrodite jealous. Because she was jealous of Psyche, Aprodite sent her son, Eros, the god of love, to (kill/make her fall in love with a vile creature) Psyche. While on his mission, Eros (fell deeply in love upon first glance/pricked himself with his own arrow) and decide to disobey his mother. Meanwhile, Psyche became very lonely. This was because her two sisters, even though they were not nearly as beautiful, were married before her. Men admired Psyche, but no one would ever fall in love with her.
Psyche's parents went to Apollo for help on the matter. Apollo said that Psyche, while wearing a black dress, would be taken away to live on a mountain alone. A winged serpent would be assigned to be her husband, and he would be powerful and terrible. Zephyr, the personified wind, took her away to the mountain. He introduces himself as Psyche's future husband, but Psyche soon notices that this mysterious husband does not seem terrible at all, but loving and kind. However, Eros cannot reveal his face to Psyche. Psyche's sisters come to tell her the reason he doesn't let her see his face is because he is hideous. That night, to test her sisters' theory, she holds a candle up to Eros' face. However, the wax drips on his face. Feeling betrayed, Eros leaves Psyche. After Eros leaves, Psyche looks for him all over, but comes up empty. Feeling desperate, she goes to Aphrodite and begs for her help. Aphrodite tells her that in order to find her husband, she would have to complete 4 impossible tasks. After receiving help and accomplishing her tasks, she returns to Aphrodite.
Angered, she decides to hold Psyche captive. Hearing everything that his wife has gone through in order to find him, he returns and saves her from Aphrodite.
Zeus, as a wedding gift, allows Psyche to taste the drink of the gods, which makes her immortal. From that day on, they lived together happily and very much in love.
